Peru resident Carole Rickards is one of two artists displaying artwork in January.

LEWISTON – The Woman’s Hospital Association of Central Maine Medical Center will start off the new year by showing the works of Janice Edwards of Casco and Carole Rickards of Peru in its January art exhibit.

Edwards lives in Casco with her husband, John, and works full time in retail management. She has always enjoyed taking photographs of her family and said the digital camera experience has opened up a whole new world.

She is a member of the Portland Camera Club and enjoys being part of group learning and growing through working with photographs.

Edwards also writes poetry and uses some of her photographs in this area, feeling the photographs give the words life. She also repairs and refurbishes damaged and older family photographs. She invites all to visit her on her Web site, Maine-DayDreams.com.

Rickards of Hammond Hill Designs, Peru, has long had a fascination with color, shapes and textures and feels fortunate to have had the support of her family and husband in her work.

Her high school art teacher encouraged her art study, which she continued in college. She later found a different path for her art when she was introduced to nature study. She soon discovered how important light was, even in the densest part of the forest.

She enjoys teaching and offers classes to children and adults and receives pleasure sharing her talent with others.

The exhibit may be viewed in the main corridor of Central Maine Medical Center throughout January. Information on purchasing the paintings is available at the Gift Shop.

The Woman’s Hospital Association supports Central Maine Medical Center and its patients by promoting the health and welfare of the community and by raising money to fund special projects. If interested in membership or the monthly art showings, call the WHA at 795-2295.
