CMMC will host the Community Breakfast Forum, open to the public, on Jan. 15.

LEWISTON – Physicians from Central Maine Medical Center’s Comprehensive Cancer Program will be the featured speakers at a Central Maine Healthcare Community Breakfast Forum set for Thursday, Jan. 15.

Dr. Nicholette L. Erickson, hematologist-oncologist, and Dr. Grenville H. Jones, radiation oncologist, will discuss “Early Detection, Prevention and Advances in Treatments for Cancer” at the presentation from 7:30 to 9 a.m. in the CMMC Conference Center, located on the ground floor of the 12 High Street Medical Office Building.

As medical director of the Comprehensive Cancer Program, Erickson is responsible for all clinical-related activities within CMMC’s regional cancer program. She oversees quality control and problem-solving activities relating to clinical matters and assists in the development of new services, the recruitment of cancer care professionals and the presentation of education programs.

She is chairwoman of the CMMC Cancer Committee and coordinates activities related to the program’s American College of Surgeons accreditation.

Erickson joined the CMMC medical staff in 1994 after completing a fellowship in hematology-oncology at the University of Virginia Health Sciences Center in Charlottesville, Va.

She graduated cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, from Smith College in Northhampton, Mass., and was awarded her medical degree from Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Va. She served an internship and residency in internal medicine at the Medical College of Virginia.

She is certified in medical oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She has co-authored several papers that have been published in medical journals.

She practices in association with medical oncologists Drs. Hans L. Boedeker, Yue Guo, Jeffrey M. Miller and Donna K. Thompson in the Twelve High Street Medical Office Building.

Jones was appointed to the Central Maine Medical Center medical staff in 2000. He practices as a member of the physician staff at the CMMC Cynthia A. Rydholm Cancer Treatment Center.

Prior to beginning his work in the Lewiston-Auburn area, Jones completed a residency in radiation oncology at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va. He served an internship through Harvard Medical School at the Cambridge Hospital in Cambridge, Mass.

He holds a bachelor’s degree from the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and earned his medical degree at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark, N.J. He is certified in radiation oncology by the American Board of Radiology.

The cancer program is accredited by the American College of Surgeons as a Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Center the highest level of accreditation granted to community hospitals. The program has a long-term research affiliation with the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.
