• Dec. 30, 1:30 p.m. – Report of a broken window at Mountain Valley High School library. Damage estimated at $300.

• Dec. 30, 9 a.m. – Cumberland Street resident reported that on Dec. 29, someone entered her unlocked apartment while she was in the shower and stole her blue oversize purse, which contained $150 cash and other items.

• Dec. 28, 10:01 p.m. – Pine Street resident reported that someone kicked in her door panel and ran off.

• Dec. 28, 1:07 a.m. – While out patrolling on Maine Avenue officer Peter Casey observed a vehicle with no front plate and a tail light out. He attempted to stop the car, but the driver reportedly sped off. A short pursuit ended at Knox Street and Essex Avenue when the driver lost control and crashed. Casey arrested the driver, David Gallant Jr., 22, of East Andover, charging him with operating under the influence, driving to endanger, and failure to stop for an officer. Gallant was released on $300 cash bail.

• Dec. 27, 5 p.m. – An “extremely irate and irritated” man walked into police station complaining about drivers not stopping for pedestrians in crosswalks,” said Sgt. Tracey Higley. Man demanded police do something about the problem.

• Dec. 27, 2:47 p.m. – Caller reported that someone had just backed into a vacuum cleaner at Yvonne’s Car Wash on Prospect Avenue. Upon investigating, police learned Chad Miles Smith, 33, of New Brunswick, Canada, had struck the device, causing an estimated $5,000 damage to his vehicle. No make of the car was given nor damage estimate to vacuum cleaner because the police report had yet to be completed as of Dec. 31.

• Dec. 26, 5 p.m. – A 1999 Hyundai, driven west on Route 2 by Benjamin Cunningham, 18, of Wilton, was struck by a 1999 Dodge sedan driven by Kirk Tallberg, 18, of Union. Med-Care Ambulance medics treated Cunningham, who was the only one injured. It was not clear if hospital transport was necessary, police said. Cunningham’s Hyundai sustained an estimated $6,000 damage while damage to Tallberg’s Dodge was estimated at $3,000. No citations were issued.

• Dec. 26, 3:35 p.m. – A steep hill and a reportedly faulty emergency brake combined were blamed for a two-vehicle wreck on Penobscot Street. A police report notes driver Emily Naples, 20, of Mexico, said she parked her 1996 Pontiac sedan in front of Tri-County Mental Health and set the emergency brake but it failed to hold. The car rolled down the street, striking a 1995 Chevrolet sports utility vehicle owned by Eugenia Davis, 42, of Rumford. Each vehicle sustained an estimated $1,500 in damages.

• Jan. 2, 11:58 a.m. – A 2003 Honda Pilot sport utility vehicle driven by Sarah MacFawn, 56, of Rumford, sustained an estimated $8,000 damage after MacFawn reportedly lost control on the snow-packed Andover Road. According to the police report, the SUV spun backward, going off the road and into a Central Maine Power utility pole guy wire, severing it. Neither MacFawn nor two young children in the SUV were injured. The wreck occurred near Duke’s Auto, which towed the vehicle.

• Jan. 1, 8:30 p.m. – A woman who was struck in the head by a thrown object Sunday while walking in the area of Waldo Street and Maine Avenue, reported the incident the next day, much to the dismay of police.

“We’d like to encourage people to report such incidents as soon as possible after they happen,” said Sgt. George Cayer. “It makes it much easier to apprehend someone, and to investigate something like that.”

Cayer said the woman, who did not seek medical treatment, sustained a bruise and cut on the back of her head.

• Dec. 31, 2:45 p.m. – A 1994 Isuzu sport utility vehicle driven by Donna Mayberry, 58, of Andover, collided with a 1993 Chevrolet SUV driven by Wayne Mercier, 43, of Rumford Center, at Cumberland Street and Oxford Avenue.

The police report said Mayberry was trying to shift while driving south on Cumberland Street when she allegedly ran a stop sign, striking Mercier, who was driving east on Oxford Avenue.

Mercier and his passenger, Nancy Mercier, 43, of Rumford Center, were treated for possible injuries by Med-Care Ambulance medics. Investigating officer Douglas Maifeld cited driver inattention and driver inexperience for causing the wreck that did an estimated $3,000 damage to the Isuzu and $2,000 damage to the Chevrolet.

• Dec. 30, 5 p.m. – A Rumford Avenue resident reported that someone broke into her unlocked apartment sometime during the night and stole her purse, which contained $230 worth of cash, savings bonds and personal items.

Arrests:

• Aaron Jackson, 18, of Rumford, on a charge of operating without a license, on Dec. 30. He was released on $200 unsecured bail.

• Shawne Gardner, 29, of Rumford, on an Oxford County Superior Court warrant indictment for bail revocation, on Dec. 29. He was transported to Oxford County Jail.

• Cheryl Bell, 47, of Rumford, on a charge of disorderly conduct, on Dec. 24. She was released on $300 unsecured bail.

• Deborah Knox, 46, of Mexico, on a charge of violation of a protection order, and a summons for a charge of assault, on Dec. 20. She was released on $400 unsecured bail.

Julie Webber, 28, of Mexico, on a charge of operating after suspension, on Dec. 31. She was released on $200 unsecured bail.

• Jessica Nichols of Rumford, on a charge of simple assault, on Dec. 30.

• Stephen Perkins, 20, of Rumford, on a charge of operating after suspension, on Dec. 27.
