1907 – 2004

WEST PARIS – Osborne “Osie” R. Hill, 96, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, at the Ledgeview Living Center. He had resided on Spruce Street in Rumford.

Born in Mexico, June 12, 1907, a son of Ira and Susie (Burbridge) Hill, he had attended Mexico schools.

Mr. Hill had been employed by Oxford Paper Co. in Rumford for over 44 years, until retirement on Jan. 1, 1970 , from the Sample Department of the mill.

“Osie” was a very active member of the Rumford First Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon. He was also a member of the Greater Rumford Senior Citizens, Blazing Star Lodge 30, AF & AM. and the Oxford Paper Co. 25 and 40-Year Club. He had enjoyed playing baseball over the years.

He was married in Rumford on July 16, 1927, to Lena Scott, who died in Rumford on March 6, 1998.

Survivors include a daughter, Doris Meserve, R.N. of Scarborough; a son, Osborne “Osie” R. Hill Jr. of Portland; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
