Incidents

• Jan. 2, 11:58 a.m. – A 2003 Honda Pilot sport utility vehicle driven by Sarah MacFawn, 56, of Rumford, sustained an estimated $8,000 damage after MacFawn reportedly lost control on the snow-packed Andover Road. According to the police report, the SUV spun backward, going off the road and into a Central Maine Power utility pole guy wire, severing it. Neither MacFawn nor two young children in the SUV were injured. The wreck occurred near Duke’s Auto, which towed the vehicle.

• Jan. 1, 8:30 p.m. – A woman who was struck in the head by a thrown object Sunday while walking in the area of Waldo Street and Maine Avenue, reported the incident the next day, much to the dismay of police.

“We’d like to encourage people to report such incidents as soon as possible after they happen,” said Sgt. George Cayer. “It makes it much easier to apprehend someone, and to investigate something like that.”

Cayer said the woman, who did not seek medical treatment, sustained a bruise and cut on the back of her head.

• Dec. 31, 2:45 p.m. – A 1994 Isuzu sport utility vehicle driven by Donna Mayberry, 58, of Andover, collided with a 1993 Chevrolet SUV driven by Wayne Mercier, 43, of Rumford Center, at Cumberland Street and Oxford Avenue.

The police report said Mayberry was trying to shift while driving south on Cumberland Street when she allegedly ran a stop sign, striking Mercier, who was driving east on Oxford Avenue.

Mercier and his passenger, Nancy Mercier, 43, of Rumford Center, were treated for possible injuries by Med-Care Ambulance medics. Investigating officer Douglas Maifeld cited driver inattention and driver inexperience for causing the wreck that did an estimated $3,000 damage to the Isuzu and $2,000 damage to the Chevrolet.

• Dec. 30, 5 p.m. – A Rumford Avenue resident reported that someone broke into her unlocked apartment sometime during the night and stole her purse, which contained $230 worth of cash, savings bonds and personal items.
