HARTFORD – Selectman and Emergency Management Agency Director Laura Marston reported the recent flood caused $16,500 damage to roads and approximately $30,000 damage to a home in Pine Shores.

Marston told fellow selectmen Thursday night that she regretted the town was late in reporting damage to the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Selectman Scott Swain said the road damage report had been sent to FEMA, but he was not clear how much money the town would receive.

“We’ll have to wait and see,” he said.

Road Commissioner Alan “Bim” McNeil has been repairing damage to Church Street and Labrador Road.

Swain asked Selectman Lee Holman to draft a letter to residents who are violating state law by plowing snow from private driveways into roads. People will be given a warning and if the violations continue, authorities will be informed.

Selectmen were given a letter from Diana Carro advising them of her home business, Bear Mountain Environmental, which sells air and water purification products and some dietary supplements.

Animal Control Officer Lianne Bedard was not present, but Town Clerk Monica Mailly reported that Bedard was sending out more than 100 notices to dog owners who have not licensed their animals. She also said that the horse barn on Gurney Road is nearing completion. The owners have hired a new contractor.

Holman said a compost workshop will be held at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 12 in the Town Hall. Barbara Murphy from the County Extension will speak on backyard composting.

Selectmen reviewed a Budget Committee ordinance that will go to the town meeting at 9 a.m. May 22 in the Town Hall.

Discussion was held over a perceived conflict of interest situation with committees. The ordinance states that an elected committee member can not serve on another elected committee or be a town employee. Another ordinance change would show the Appeals Board having five members and one alternate.

There will be a public meeting at 10 a.m. Jan. 31 in the Town Hall with the Pine Shores Association. The selectmen will meet at 6 p.m. Jan. 22 before their regular meeting to discuss differences the town has with Pine Shores such as the beach gate, garbage collection and road maintenance.

There have been several complaints on the winter sand quality.

McNeil said there will be 6 feet at the bottom of his sand pile that will not be usable. Swain plans to meet with the sand providers.

A potluck dinner will be held at 6 p.m. Feb. 6 in the Hartford Town Hall.
