NEWRY – Illusionist Jason Bishop will make his first appearance – and disappearances – at Sunday River Ski Resort when he performs his magic Sunday, Jan. 18.

The artist combines modern music with fast-paced illusions. His performance is part of the Black Diamond Family Entertainment Series.

Bishop’s signature piece turns fire and candles into live birds, and those birds split into even more birds. A girl is cut in half with a samurai sword and drawings from a sketch pad come to life as fire, roses and even a wine bottle jump off the pages.

Bishop was the youngest person to win the Magician’s Alliance of Eastern States Stage Award and one of the youngest to compete in the Society of American Magicians World Class competition.

Other honors include first-place awards and first runner-up at the Fox Family Channel Future Stars of Magic competition, the Battle of Magicians and the International Battle of Magicians.

The curtain goes up at 7 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom of the Grand Summit Resort Hotel at Sunday River.

Advance tickets: $4 for children (age 6 to 12), $6 for adults; $6, $8 at the door. Tickets may be purchased on the mountain and at Books & Things in Bethel. FMI: call (207) 824-3575.
