NORWAY – Second District Congressman Michael Michaud will tour the C.B. Cummings & Son dowel mill in downtown Norway on Saturday afternoon.

Michaud, who has made economic development a top priority during his legislative career, will meet with members of Norway Downtown Revitalization prior to the tour to hear about redevelopment plans for the property.

The meeting will be at 2 p.m. at Fare Share Commons, 445 Main St., Norway, and will last about a half hour, said Downtown Director Ann Campbell. After the meeting, the group will cross Main Street to tour the mill property, which was purchased for $100,000 by Western Maine Development a few months ago.

The town of Norway is seeking a $400,000 Community Development Block Grant from the state to create parking and make other preliminary infrastructure improvements. Town leaders are hoping to tap federal funding sources to help with the redevelopment, and will be seeking advice from Michaud on how to proceed.

Michaud of Medway worked at the Great Northern Paper Company mill in Millinocket for 30 years. He has been in politics since 1980, serving in both the Maine House and Senate before being elected in 2002 to represent the Second Congressional District.
