AUBURN – A public hearing on the Androscoggin County hazard mitigation plan will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, at the offices of the Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments, 125 Manley Road.

Residents, business owners and municipal officials of all Androscoggin County communities are invited to participate in the public hearing.

In 2000, Congress decided that the United State spent too much money reacting to disasters and not enough avoiding them. It created an incentive to undertake mitigation planning, including providing a limited amount of planning funds. Androscoggin County’s Emergency Management Agency decided to use the planning funds to develop a county-wide plan, with projects in every county community.

Following a number of meetings with town officials and others throughout the county, a draft plan was issued in June 2003; this plan will be the subject of the public hearing.

Anyone interested in reviewing the plan can borrow a copy from your town office or by contacting Carol Fuller at AVCOG (783-9186, [email protected]) or Joanne Potvin at the Androscoggin County Emergency Management Agency (784-0147, [email protected]).
