BELMONT, Mass. (AP) – Police found the bodies of a husband and wife in their home Sunday morning.

The murders were being investigated as an apparent murder suicide, Middlesex District Attorney spokesman Seth Horwitz said.

Belmont police responded to a call at 11:15 a.m. on Agassiz Avenue to find the bodies of 53-year-old Dominic Pizzi and his wife, Catherine Pizzi, 48, inside the home.

They both died of gunshot wounds, Lt. Donald Fournier of the Belmont Police Department said.

Two other family members were also in the home at the time of the murders, but authorities believe they were unaware of the incident and unharmed. The cause and manner of death were still under investigation.

The State Medical Examiner’s Office was expected to conduct autopsies on Monday.
