ORONO (AP) – T.J. Sorrentine had 19 points to lead five Vermont players in double figures as Vermont beat Maine 71-62 on Sunday.

Maine’s defense held Vermont’s leading scorer Taylor Coppenrath to 11 points but the Catamounts (7-5, 4-0 America East) got solid contributions from others to remain undefeated in conference play.

Maine (8-5, 2-2) shot 61 percent from the floor en route to a 37-34 halftime lead but shot only 35 percent in the second half. Vermont began to take control with eight straight points during a key stretch in the second half, led by three-pointers from Sorrentine and David Hehn to take a 51-44 lead with 10:07 to play.

Maine closed to within one at 62-61 but the Catamounts finished with a 9-1 run.

Hehn had 10 points, Martin Klimes 13 points and Scotty Jones 11 points for Vermont. Eric Dobson led Maine with 20 points.
