JAY – School Committee members voted Thursday to expel a high school student they had previously suspended in November until Aug. 12.

The teenage boy allegedly committed more wrong doings that led to the expulsion when he was in a vehicle that damaged the high school football field in December.

Referred to as student X, the boy was initially suspended from school for smoking on school property, breaking into the high school and taking money from the building.

Superintendent Robert Wall said the board has the right to determine if a student should be suspended or expelled.

The committee had planned to review the case in August and determine if further action was warranted.

Now that the student is expelled, he would need to apply to come back to school. He’s prohibited from attending any other high school in the state.

In other business, committee members voted to deny teachers grievances, Wall said.
