1938-2004

FARMINGTON – John Arnold Pillsbury Sr., 65, of Farmington, died Friday Jan. 9, at Franklin Memorial Hospital, following a long illness.

He was born Sept. 4, 1938, in Farmington, a son of Arnold D. and Marion (Fellows) Pillsbury. He graduated from Farmington High School and served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. In 1957, he married Noreen Dorothy McCormick.

For 26 years he was employed in the maintenance department at Franklin Memorial Hospital. He was a lifetime member of the Farmington Elks Lodge B.P.O.E.#2430 and the West Farmington Fire Dept. He was also a member of the American Legion Post. He enjoyed carpentry, as well as camping and fishing at East Carry. One of his greatest joys was his Yorshire Terrier, “Squeakie.”

He is survived by: two daughters, Sue Paul and her companion, Erland “Pump” Waterhouse, of Dixfield and Kristie Backus and her husband, Major Michael Backus, of Wilton; a daughter-in-law, whom he loved as a daughter, Nadene “Deanie” Pillsbury of Strong; one sister, Anne Pillsbury of Falmouth; nine grandchildren, Jamie Paul, Jessica Paul, Tia Dakin, Ryan Backus, Nathan Backus, Evan Backus, Jason Pillsbury, Tom Pillsbury and Abbie Pillsbury; and two great-grandchildren, Davin Targett and Caitlynn Cole.

He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, and a son, John Pillsbury, Jr. who died Feb. 9, 2003.
