LISBON FALLS – Lisbon Adult Education announces registration for spring classes beginning on Monday, Jan. 12. Classes will be offered in academics, computers, arts and crafts, general enrichment, fitness and safety.

Computer courses will include Keyboarding/Typing, which starts Jan. 28, and QuickBooks Pro, which starts Jan. 29. Both classes will run for eight weeks and meet from 6 to 8 p.m.

A two-week course in buying a computer will be offered starting Jan. 26. The course is recommended for those buying their first computer or who are considering upgrading their current system. A Computer Trouble Shooting class will start Feb. 9 and an Introduction to Office class will start Feb. 24. Later in the spring a Microsoft Word course and an Excel course will be offered.

A Certified Nursing Assistant class will begin Monday, Feb. 2. The application deadline is Jan. 21. The class will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday and Thursdays at Lisbon High School and from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Amenity Manor in Topsham for the clinical component. An Accounting II class will meet for 12 weeks starting Jan. 27. The prerequisite is an Accounting Basics class or Accounting I. A substitute teaching class will start March 2 and will meet for six weeks. A Medical Terminology II class will meet for seven weeks starting March 2.

Fitness classes will include an aerobics class, which will meet twice a week beginning Jan. 26 and beginning and continuing Yoga classes, which will start March 2 and run for 10 weeks. A Beginner Swing Dancing class will start on March 4 and will run for five weeks.

Academic courses will include math refresher and English refresher classes for adults who are planning to enter college and need to review for college placement tests.

High school diploma courses will include Algebra I, Maine Literature and U.S. History through Film. All academic classes start the week of Jan. 26.

A ParaPro Preparation course will be offered in early February for educational technicians who need to fulfill requirements for No Child Left Behind. GED testing will be offered from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Monday and Wednesday. A GED class will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

A quilting class will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 27, and will meet for eight weeks. A black and white photography class with darkroom will begin on Jan. 26.

There will be a Family Valentine Workshop on Feb. 11 where parents, grandparents and children will handcraft valentines for friends and family. A Learn to Juggle class will begin Jan. 26 and meet for three weeks.

An American Red Cross certified babysitting course will start on March 3. Early registration is recommended for writers who are looking for a positive informal creative environment in which to share their writing experience. A Beginning ASL Sign Language class will start on Feb. 12.

On Feb. 25 Smart Meals, Busy Families course will begin. Early registration is recommended since class size is limited to 12. Free child care is provided. It is a hands-on cooking class and a meal is shared each week with the parents and children.

The Lisbon Book Club meets on the third Wednesday of each month. The selection for Jan. 21 is “Plain Truth” by Jodi Picoult. The February meeting is Feb. 11 due to school vacation. The selection for February is “Dirt Music” by Tim Winton. Membership is open and free. Members borrow books from libraries or purchase their own books.
