Geography Bee
MEXICO – Mountain Valley Middle School students will compete in the National Geography Bee at 11:40 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, at the Lecture Hall of the school at 58 Highland Terrace. The winner will advance to a written examination. All school winners are eligible for the national championship May 25 and 26 in Washington, D.C., with its first prize of a $25,000 college scholarship. Discussion group

Business seminars offered
RUMFORD – Business lunch-and-learn seminars are planned, beginning Jan. 21, that will offer opportunities using a hands-on approach. The program is a project of River Valley Technology Center, the River Valley Growth Council and the River Valley Chamber of Commerce. The program will enable new and existing businesses to get together under one roof, share information, past experiences and explore networking opportunities for long-term success. A speaker will offer advice for businesses. Sessions will be held on the third Wednesday of every month from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the conference room at the River Valley Business Resource Center on 34 River St. The cost is $8 and includes lunch.
