BRYANT POND – Randy Bumps, executive director of the Bush-Cheney ’04 Campaign, will be the featured speaker at the next meeting of the Oxford County Republican Committee on Tuesday, Jan. 13, at Franklin Grange 124, Main Street in Bryant Pond. A social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting. Reports on the forthcoming Lincoln Day Dinner in February, candidate recruitment, fund-raising and campaign strategies will be among the subjects to be discussed. Doctor to speak

MEXICO – Dr. Angela L. Roberts of Roberts Chiropractic Wellness Care, 43 Exchange St., will be the featured speaker at the TOPS meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, at the Mexico Congregational United Church of Christ. Dr. Roberts has recently moved to Maine and opened a practice in Rumford after practicing in Jamaica for seven years. She has been a chiropractor for more than 10 years. She specializes in activator methods, a low-force, gentle technique. She also holds a degree in nutrition and does nutritional counseling. She may be contacted at 369-9138.

School fund-raiser

LOCKE MILLS – Woodstock Elementary School is holding a fund-raiser for its fifth grade trip to Boston. A Longaberger basket bingo will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, at Jackson Silver American Legion Post off Route 26 in Locke Mills. Doors will open at 11 a.m. $10. Tickets for 16 bingo games are available in advance. A light lunch and snacks will be available. There will be door prizes and raffle baskets. Discussion group

Society meeting

CARTHAGE – The Carthage Historical Society will hold the January meeting at the old school museum building on Tuesday, Jan. 20, starting will a potluck supper at 5:30 p.m. The speaker for this meeting will be Carthage resident, Kim Dailey. Daily has turned a woodworking hobby into a fast growing business with his products being sold in gift shops across the country as well as on the Internet. He will be showing examples of his work. The public is invited to attend.

Business seminars offered

RUMFORD – Business lunch-and-learn seminars are planned, beginning Jan. 21, that will offer opportunities using a hands-on approach. The program is a project of River Valley Technology Center, the River Valley Growth Council and the River Valley Chamber of Commerce. The program will enable new and existing businesses to get together under one roof, share information, past experiences and explore networking opportunities for long-term success. A speaker will offer advice for businesses. Sessions will be held on the third Wednesday of every month from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the conference room at the River Valley Business Resource Center on 34 River St. The cost is $8 and includes lunch.
