1945 – 2004

SOUTH PARIS – Rex L. Thurston, 58, died Monday, Jan. 12, at the Maine Veterans Home. He was a resident of the Rumford Center Road, Andover, and has lived in the area all his life.

He was born in Rumford, on March 14, 1945, a son of Arthur and Mary (Glover) Thurston, and graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford with the Class of 1963.

He served as an E-4 with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Conflict.

He worked as a woodsman, truck driver, was formerly a part owner of the M.R. Dowel, Inc. in Rumford Center, and worked at Sunday River, and recently had worked as a Road Commissioner Helper for the Town of Andover.

He was a member of the Oxford Bear Lodge 54, K.of P.; Member Oakdale Country Club; He enjoyed the outdoors, and especially loved his family.

He was married in Andover, on July 26, 1969, to the former Merilee A. Jodrey who survives of Andover; other survivors include four sons, Danny Thurston and wife Jackie of Old Orchard Beach, Jon Thurston and wife Mary of Andover, Kurt Thurston and wife Jessica of Bryant Pond, and Joshua Thurston of Warren; three brothers, Ronald Thurston and wife Carol of Arundel, Mark Thurston and wife Anna of Andover, and Ralph Thurston and companion, Charlene of Rumford Point; seven grandchildren.
