1918 – 2004

LEWISTON – Rocky R. Giguere, 85, of 20 Niles Road, Sabattus, died Friday, Jan. 9, at Ste. Marguerite d’Youville Pavilion.

Born at Trois-Rivieres du Loup, P.Q., Canada, April 22, 1918, a son of Donat and Flora Giroux Giguere, he was educated in Maine schools.

He served in the 20th Armored Division of the U.S. Army during World War II in France, Germany and Belgium, during which time he met and married the former Marie Irene Martin of Portsmouth, England.

Before going into his own television repair business in 1953, he was a partner with his father at D. Giguere and Sons Lumber business for many years. His experience as a vehicle inspection foreman in the Army led to his lifelong enthusiasm for automobiles.

Mr. Giguere was a long-time member of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish and the American Legion Post 135 of Sabattus. He also served on the board of directors of the Sabattus Regional Credit Union.

“Rocky” was well known and well liked in his community, loved spending time at Sabattus Lake surrounded by his family and was always there for those who needed his help.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Marie Giguere of Sabattus; two daughters, Lynda Giguere and husband, Rick Clair of Alaska, and Denise Giguere of Sabattus; three sons, Ralph and Sharon Giguere of Arizona, Michael Giguere of Harrison and Andy Giguere of Sabattus; three grandchildren, Heather and Brian Giguere and Austen Clair; two great-grandchildren, Alexandra and Dawson Welch; two brothers, Jean Paul and Lucille Giguere of Winslow and Raoul and Stella Giguere of Waterville; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Melvin; and two brothers, Philippe and Gaston Giguere.
