DURHAM – If all those who have taken out nomination papers for the March 5 municipal election file them, there will be contests on three boards.
There are two three-year seats for selectmen. Incumbent Terry Kirk has already filed and Chairman Wesley Bennett has taken out papers. Also circulating papers for a seat are first-timers Curtis Pass and Timothy Asselyn, brother of Selectman Kirk Asselyn.
Four people have taken out papers for two three-year openings on the School Committee: Jonathan Snell, husband of board member Amber Snell; incumbent Mark Rivers, who was appointed to fill the remainder of Marie Ann White’s term when she resigned; Mark Emery, a newcomer; and Catherine Weber, also a political newcomer. Incumbent Phyllis Brannon is not seeking re-election.
There are three openings on the Budget Committee, also for three years. Incumbents Jeff Leighton and Chairman Allan Purinton are circulating papers and Deborah Larrabee has filed for another term. Leslie Manning, a newcomer to local politics, has also taken out papers.
Tax Collector/Treasurer Pauline Paradis has filed for another one-year term for those dual positions; and Road Commissioner Clifton Larrabee has taken out papers for re-election.
The deadline to file papers is 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, said Town Clerk Shannon Plourde. A minimum of 25 signatures of registered Durham voters is required. For more information, call Plourde at the Town Office at 353-2561.
