AUBURN – The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society’s Shelter Manager Kathi Grenier visited with Lisbon Elementary School’s fifth-grade class on Dec. 18.

She spoke about the responsibilities of pet ownership. She was also presented with donations of food, treats, pet toys and cleaning supplies to help with the care of the unwanted animals the society helps each year.

The Humane Society has two staff members who are trained as humane educators. They visit community schools and other organizations with their interactive presentations designed to instruct youth and adults about the proper care, respect and treatment of animals.

The Society provides a haven for approximately 3,600 sick, homeless and abused animals in the greater Androscoggin area a year. The primary support for the shelter comes from fund-raising events and donations of concerned citizens.

The shelter is located at 3312 Hotel Road. If interested in learning more about volunteering at the shelter or adopting an animal call 783-2311 or visit the Web site at www.gahumane.org.
