Eric Dobson piles up 21 points and directs Maine to a 70-58 victory over UNH.
DURHAM, N.H. – Eric Dobson went 8-for-9 from the field and perfect from the free-throw line for 21 points as the University of Maine sailed to a 70-58 win over the University of New Hamsphire in men’s basketball action at Lundholm Gymnasium Wednesday evening.
Guard Kevin Reed tossed in three field goals and a pair from the line, including a couple of treys, for the Black Bears (9-5). Forward Mark Flavin chipped in with five field goals for another 10 points in the Maine effort.
Ben Sturgill came off the bench to score a team-high 19 points for New Hampshire, while teammate Craig Walls tallied an additional 12 points.
Husson 99, Thomas 96
WATERVILLE – All five starters scored in double-digits, including a double-double by Tyler Muzzy, to give Husson College a 99-96 win over Thomas College in men’s basketball action Wednesday.
Buddy Leavitt scored a team-high 24 points for the Braves (7-5), while Muzzy tossed in 17 points and hauled down 13 rebounds in an intense matchup.
Adam Rich recorded a spectacular 33 points for the Terriers (3-9) on 12 field goals and three free throws, including six from beyond the arc.
Womens’ basketball
UNE 81, NEC 56
BIDDEFORD – Melissa Roller scored 19 points, including her 1,000th career point, to lead the University of New England to a 81-56 rout over New England College Wednesday evening at the Campus Center.
UNE seized control early, taking a 25-10 advantage over the opening 11 minutes. The Nor’easters were 15 of 18 at the free-throw line in the first half and led 42-23 at the break. They took their largest lead of the night (68-40) on a bucket by Tara Peterson with 8:33 remaining.
Missy Stults led the scoring effort for UNE with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Laura Mahoney led the NEC Pilgrims (3-8) with a game-high 27 points.
Husson 59, Thomas 54
WATERVILLE – Holly Gracie led the way with 11 points in a balanced attack as Husson College slipped away with a 59-54 win over Thomas College in women’s basketball action Wednesday.
Carmen Ballard and Megan Hughes contributed to the Braves’ (9-2) offense with 10 points apiece. Husson converted a halftime deficit of one with a 27-21 margin in the second half. Tammy Fowler had the game-high 19 points for the Terriers (4-9), while Ashley Hathaway pitched in with 10 points for Thomas.
