I would like to express my concern for my fellow walkers out there. I walk everyday to and from work in the rain, the heat and snow. I walk through slush and on ice because of lack of transportation or lack of funds for transportation or for my health.

I am not one of those walkers who disrespect the drivers and the rules of the road by walking in front of a moving car just because I feel I have the right of way. I am a cautious walker who respects the driver and the rules. I am just asking for the same courtesy.

Before you curse and beep at us for walking in the street, consider why we might be in the street in the first place. The sidewalks might be too icy or not plowed yet and it can be safer walking in the street. We try to stay out of your way and close to the side as we can but with the snow banks, sometimes its not easy.

You are the one in the warm, dry car. All we ask is think of us as we walk in the cold and the rain. Please slow down when you pass us in the rain even though it might be funny to splash us.

Would it be too much to ask to let us cross the street when it’s bitter cold outside?
