NORWAY – Freakwitch, a folk-rock collective, will return to the Fare Share Commons at 447 Main St. with a concert beginning at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24.

The six-member ensemble is led by Matthew Shields (vocals) of Hollis and James Lindenschmidt (guitar) of Portland. It also includes Alan Day (percussion) of South Paris, Damon Holman (vocals, guitar) and Brendan Pajak (drum kit) of Portland, and Yosarian (bass) of Belfast.

The performance will feature original songs by members of Freakwitch, as well as a couple of cover tunes by Ani DiFranco. The musicians note that seating is limited, so everyone is encouraged to dance.

The songwriting team of Shields and Lindenschmidt began in 1997 with the group Amanda’s Boy. When that project ended the next year, Wheel was born, playing in Maine clubs until 2001. Freakwitch took shape early in 2003.

The Fare Share Commons is supported entirely by donations and room use fees, so the band is asking $5 contributions at the door. For more information, people can call 743-0165 (Alan Day) or 929-3574 (Matthew Shields), or can visit www.freakwitch.net.
