RUMFORD – Byron Glaus poured in 12 points in the net to lift Mountain Valley to a 57-37 MVC boys’ basketball victory over Lisbon on Thursday night.

Zack Fergola and Matt McCann each scored seven points for the Falcons (12-0).

McCann also hauled down 10 rebounds.

Lisbon trailed by only two points at the half. Jared Martin downed a game-high 13 points for the Greyhounds (6-6).

Winthrop 66, Livermore Falls 51

LIVERMORE FALLS – Senior guard Chris McPherson and freshman guard Mike Gingras netted 17 points apiece to lift Winthrop to a 66-51 win over Livermore Falls in MVC action.

The Ramblers (6-5) fell short in the first and third quarters with evenly contested frames.

However, the Ramblers applied pressure and nearly doubled the Andies’ (2-9) offensive efforts in the second and fourth stanzas.

Winthrop led 34-26 at the half.

Junior guards Brad Bryant and Levi Armandi led the Andies with 14 and 13 points, respectively.

Madison 59, Dirigo 49

MADISON- Randy McMullen scored a game-high 19 points to propel Madison to a 59-49 MVC win over Dirigo.

Matt Stewart followed close behind with 17 points tallied toward the win for the Bulldogs (5-6).

Craig Langervin deposited 17 points and hauled down 11 rebounds for the Cougars (3-8).

Women’s basketball

Plymouth 69, St. Joseph’s 67

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Betsy Oswalt scored a season-high 22 points in a balanced attack for the Panthers to lead Plymouth State to a 69-67 win over St. Joseph’s in women’s basketball action Thursday.

The Monks (7-6) rebounded from a first-half 34-23 deficit to outscore Plymouth State 44-35 in the second frame, but came up one field goal short at the buzzer. Megan Tetrault recorded a game-high 24 points for the Monks.

Mandi Allen and Heather Thomas contributed 10 points apiece for the Panthers (7-6).

USM 65, Salem State 51

SALEM, Mass. – The University of Southern Maine Huskies converted seven of eight free throws over the final three minutes to hold on for a 65-51 victory over the Salem State Vikings in a non-conference game Thursday night.

Leading by seven after Salem State freshman Jennifer Tamilio hit a pair of charity tosses with 3:03 to play, the Huskies outscored the Vikings 9-2, including the final seven points of the game to preserve the win.

After the Vikings responded with a 6-0 run to cut the margin of three with 3:41 to go, the Huskies’ defense held the hosts scoreless the rest of the half while Webster ignited another 9-0 run.

USM pushed the lead back up to 12 before the Vikings made one final push to pull wihtin seven on two occasions.

Tamilio took game-high scoring honors with 17 points for the Vikings. DePatsy was the only other Salem State player to reach double figures with 10 points.
