RANGELEY – A Franklin County teen was arrested and charged with felony gross sexual assault on a 13-year-old girl.
Earlier this week, the Rangeley Police Department got a call saying a 16-year-old Rangeley boy had sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old Rangeley girl one time earlier this month, said Detective David St. Laurent of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department.
After conducting an investigation, the detective arrested the male on Wednesday and charged him with gross sexual assault, although St. Laurent said evidence “clearly shows it was consensual.”
However, because the female had not reached the age of 14 and the male was over 16, law determines that the girl is not old enough to consent.
The juvenile male was released back into the custody of his parents later that day. He has a Feb. 11 court date.
