ORONO – Goalie Frank Doyle posted his fourth shutout of the season as Maine defeated Massachusetts 3-0 Friday night in Hockey East.

“It was a good thorough game and a good victory,” said Maine coach Tim Whitehead. “I feel good about the discipline we showed and how we stuck to the game plan. This was a good team that we shut out.”

Mike Hamilton put the Black Bears ahead to stay at 17:01 of the first period. Tom Zabkowicz made it 2-0 at 11:40 of the second on the rebound of a shot by Colin Shields.

Michel Leveille rounded out the scoring with 1:16 to play while Maine (16-4-1, 8-2-1) enjoyed a 5-on-3 advantage.

Gabe Winer made 24 saves for Massachusetts (10-7-5, 6-5-2).

“The guys in front of me make my job easy,” said Doyle, who set a school single-season record with the shutout.
