Michaud is the first Franco-American from Maine to be elected to Congress.

U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud, D-Maine, will deliver the Democratic response to President Bush’s weekly radio address this morning. The president will begin his weekly speech at 10:06 a.m. Michaud’s response will begin airing at 11:06 a.m. on major radio networks. Local stations carrying the address include 106.7 FM, 870 AM and 1470 AM, said Michaud’s press secretary, Monica Castellanos.

Stations that carry the weekly address include ABC, NPR, CBS Radio, CNN Radio, C-SPAN, Armed Forces Radio Network, Voice of America Radio Network, BBC Radio and Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

According to Castellanos, it’s an honor to be chosen to deliver the Democratic response, especially with the president’s State of the Union address to Congress three days away. Michaud will question the direction that President Bush is leading the nation, talk about how so many jobs have been lost to unfair foreign competition and how seniors need help affording their prescription, something he’s said the new Medicare law will not do. A freshman, Michaud is the first Franco-American to be elected to Congress from Maine. He represents the 2nd District which includes Lewiston-Auburn and northern Maine.
