TORONTO – Robert Esche made 35 saves for his second shutout of the season and Michal Handzus scored twice as the Philadelphia Flyers completed a home-and-home series sweep of the Toronto Maple Leafs with a 4-0 victory Saturday night

The Flyers also beat Toronto 4-1 on Friday night, and have outscored the Maple Leafs 21-3 in their last four meetings.

Devils 2, Capitals 1, OT

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Patrik Elias scored both New Jersey goals, including the winner 2:17 into overtime, lifting the Devils a 2-1 victory over the Washington Capitals.

Elias picked up the puck in the Devils end and skated into the Capitals zone. He left a drop pass for Scott Gomez, who found Brian Rafalski open at the point.

Rafalski fired a hard shot that goalie Olaf Kolzig dived to stop, but Elias swatted in the rebound to give New Jersey its second win in six games (2-3-1).

Jaromir Jagr scored for Washington, the only goal of the first period at 7:30.

Islanders 4, Sabres 2

UNIONDALE, N.Y. – Kenny Jonsson had a goal and assist, and Rick DiPietro made 27 saves to lead the New York Islanders to a 4-2 victory over the Buffalo Sabres.

Cliff Ronning, Dave Scatchard and Janne Niinimaa also scored for New York, and Oleg Kvasha and Arron Asham each had a pair of assists. New York has won nine of 11 at home.

ST. LOUIS – Doug Weight scored on a power play with 1:37 remaining in regulation to give St. Louis a tie that extending Minnesota’s overtime unbeaten streak to 24 games.

The teams have tied twice in the last two weeks.

That’s a common occurrence for the Wild, who lead the NHL with 14 ties and are the only team without an overtime decision.

Rangers 2, Canadiens 2

MONTREAL – Alexei Kovalev scored with 5:06 remaining in regulation to lift the New York Rangers into a 2-2 tie with the Montreal Canadiens.

Kovalev took Eric Lindros’ pass from the boards behind the goal line and beat goalie Jose Theodore through the legs from the edge of the crease to tie it 2-2 at 14:54.

Panthers 2, Lightning 1

SUNRISE, Fla. – Roberto Luongo made 50 saves and Olli Jokinen scored two third-period goals to lead the Florida Panthers to a 2-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Luongo kept Florida in the game in the first two periods while the Panthers were being outshot 34-9.

His best save came midway through the second period after a rebound when he reached out with his glove to stop Tim Taylor’s shot into an open net.

The Panthers snapped a three-game winless streak (0-2-1) despite being outshot 51-15.
