The Tigers use a second quarter outburst to cruise to a 71-54 win.

THOMASTON – Justin Wells torched the nets for a game-high 23 points as Jay handed Georges Valley a 71-54 setback in MVC basketball action Saturday evening.

The Tigers (10-2) used a 22-9 second period to open the game up and continued to put the offensive pressure on in the second half as Marc Kelvey (18 points) and Sean Fry (14 points) added to the lead.

Ryan DiPompo added seven points for the Tigers.

Matt Judkins paced the Buccaneers (10-3) attack with 16 points including a pair of 3-pointers.

Brett Hutchinson added 12 points in the loss.

Rangeley 59, Averill 37

HINCKLEY – David Jensen poured in a game-high 19 points to lead Rangeley to a 59-37 win over Averill in boys’ basetball action Saturday evening.

The Rangers (6-2) broke out to a 33-16 lead at the end of the first half, outscoring Averill 23-6 in the second quarter, and were never challenged in the second half.

Brian White and James Raymond added 16 and 12 points respectivley in the victory for the Lakers. The Beavers were paced by Ryan Lamontagne with 11 points.

Madison 66, Mt. Abram 47

SALEM – Senior center Randy McMullen captured 21 points to power Madison to a 66-47 win over Mt. Abram in MVC boys’ basketball action Saturday.

The Roadrunners (3-8) jumped out to an early 10-8 lead after one, but the Bulldogs (6-6) responded with a startling 27-10 run in the second quarter and continued with a 20-8 third frame which could not be overcome despite a Mt. Abram eight-point advantage in the final frame. Matt Stewart garnered 11 points, while Ryan Pinkham tallied another 10 for Madison in the win.Senior forward Frank Hayes made a game-high eight field goals to provide the Roadrunners with 16 points.Sterling Pingree added 12 points.

Mountain Valley 47, Winthrop 39

WINTHROP – Mountain Valley limited Winthrop to 20 points through three quarters and remained unbeaten in the MVC with a 47-39 victory.

The Falcons (12-0) led 13-5 after one quarter and 24-12 at the break.

Travis Fergola led Mountain Valley with 11 points, followed by Issac Stickney with nine.

Jason Allen led all scorers with 16 for the Ramblers (5-7).

Forest Hills 57,

Eastgate 47

JACKMAN – Josh Kipp exploded for a game-high 25 points including four 3-pointers to propell Forest Hills to a 57-47 win over Eastgate Christian in boys’ basketball action Saturday.

Matt Achey added 17 points with three 3-point shots in the win.

Aaron Anderson and John Anderson scored 11 and 10 points respectivley in the loss.

Gould 61, Islesboro 34

BETHEL – T. J. Savage poured in 22 points to lead Gould Academy to a convincing 61-34 win over Islesboro in boys’ basketball action Saturday.

The Huskies broke the game open with a 20-5 third quarter.

Whitney Stowell and Quinn McAllister chipped in with 17 and 14 points respectivley in the victory for the Huskies (6-3).

The Eagles (2-8) were led by Brandon Hussey with a team-high 15 points.

Hockey

Lewiston 4, Waterville 2

LEWISTON – Lewiston scored three goals in the final two minutes Saturday night, including an empty netter, to remain unbeaten with a stunning 4-2 come-from-behind victory over Waterville.

Nate Gruz scored twice in that span, and Jason Dube added the game-winner for the Blue Devils (10-0).

Micha Plaisted opened the game with a goal for the Panthers (3-8) at the 3:14 mark of the first period and responded again three minutes after the Blue Devils had tied it in the second stanza.

With two minutes remaining in regulation and looking as though Lewiston’s perfect season might end, the team kicked it up a notch and scored back-to-back goals by Gruz and Dube in short fashion. Gruz then added an empty net goal in the final seconds to clinch the win.

Waterville goalie Joe Fonollosa faced a barrage of shots, making 42 saves in the hard-luck loss. Nick Langlais make 16 saves for the Blue Devils.

Win-Dale 5,

Lisbon-Monmouth 2

HOLLOWELL – Nate Frechette scored four goals and added an assist to power Win-Dale to a 5-2 win over Lisbon-Monmouth in boy’s hockey Saturday evening.

Adam Beal tallied the game-winner converting a pass from Frechette at 4:35 of the second period and the IceDogs (3-7) were never serriously challenged the rest ofthe way.

The Graystangs (0-9) goals came from Pat Reny and Derek Baril in the second period.

Brewster 4, Hebron 3

HEBRON – Brewster Academy scored the tie-breaker at 13:53 of the third period to notch a 4-3 victory over Hebron Academy in hockey action Saturday.

Michael Turk opened the scoring for Hebron at 6:05 of the first period. Brewster responded with goals in the final minutes of the first stanza and opening minutes of the second stanza.

Kents Hill 12, Kingswood-Oxford 0

KENTS HILL – Bruno Senka scored four goals to catapult Kents Hill to a 12-0 New England Division II prep hockey win over Kingswood-Oxford.

Craig Houle added two goals and an assist for the Huskies (7-5). Steve Belle-Isle made 13 saves.
