The suspect is still at large and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

LEWISTON – Police continued to search Saturday for a gunman who walked into Flagship Cinema on Lisbon Street Friday night and threatened a clerk.

Nobody was hurt in the 8 p.m. heist, but investigators say the suspect aimed a handgun and pulled the hammer back while demanding money.

More than a hundred people were attending movies inside the theater at 855 Lisbon St. when the robbery was committed, investigators said.

The suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. Police said no shots were fired in the holdup.

Police swarmed on the area moments after the robbery was reported. They searched parking areas behind and in front of the cinema as well as snow-covered paths leading from the scene.

Officers fanned out along nearby streets while others searched for tracks in the snow near railroad tracks behind Flagship.

The Flagship Cinema is located next to Rock’N Robins at the Promenade Mall.

Police searched dumpsters next to the cinema and questioned people in the area at the time of the heist. By late Friday night, no suspects had been captured. Investigators were using a tracking dog in pursuit of the suspect.

Footprints and vehicle tracks were found at the back of the cinema. But because of heavy traffic at the mall, police had trouble determining which might belong to the suspect.

Detectives spoke with several people who were in or near the cinema lobby when the heist was committed. At the time of the stickup, roughly a half dozen movies being shown inside were already under way.

When the early evening shows let out, several patrons emerged from theaters unaware that the robbery had been committed.

Police were looking for a man with facial hair. He was wearing dark clothes and a dark knit cap at the time of the holdup. Anyone with information is asked to phone police at 784-6421.
