CLINTON, N.Y. – Junior Chris Cagliuso scored midway through the second period to give Hamilton College a lead they would not relinquish as it handed the University of Southern Maine a 7-1 setback in men’s hockey action Saturday afternoon.

The Huskies lone goal came from Chad Lauze at 2:27 of the second period.

Williams 4, Bowdoin 1

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Dennis Kim scored a pair of goals and an assist to lead Williams to a 4-1 win over Bowdoin.

Adam Dann led off the scoring for the Polar Bears (8-4-0) five minutes into the first frame with a power play goal. The Polar Bears held on to that lead until Kim notched a power-play goal of his own for the Ephmen (8-2-2) half way through the second period.

Williams proceeded to score three unanswered goals, capped by Kim and assisted by Devon O’Rourke with his third assist of the contest.

Colby 5, Middlebury 3

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Colby held off a late charge by Middlebury as Nate Stanglein added an empty netter for high second goal of the contest and a 5-3 win in men’s hockey action Saturday.

Stanglein made a high off-speed shot from the point at 11:25 of the second period for the fourth Colby goal and eventual game-winner. The Mules (7-4-1) picked up their first win against the Panthers in the last 10 meetings.

Yen-I Chen and Marc Scheuer combined to make 14 saves for Middlebury, while Chris Reis made 27 stops for Colby.

Men’s basketball

Bates 82, Connecticut College 45

LEWISTON – Elliott Linsley tickled the twine for 17 points to lead Bates College to an 82-45 win over Connecticut College in men’s basketball action.

The Bobcats (11-3) used a stifling defense as they held the Camels (4-9) to a 37-19 deficit at the end of the first half an never looked back in the second half as Rob Stockwell and Matt Chudomell chipped in with 14 and 10 points respectively.

Freshman Zak Ray added nine points, dished out eight assists and made six steals controlling the frontcourt.

The Camels were led by Jahkeen Washington with 12 points.

UMD 85, USM 69

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Chris Lapriore drained 22 points to lead Trinity College to an 85-69 win over the University of Southern Maine Saturday at Tripp Athletic Center.

Joe Britto and Matt McAuliffe chipped in with 20 and 18 points respectively as the Corsaiurs (6-7) cruised to the win.

The Huskies were led by Mike Francour with a game-high 24 points and Ryan Garland who added 10 points in the loss.

Mount Ida 100, Thomas 92

NEWTON, Mass. – Senior forward Josh Didick led all scorers with 32 points and 10 rebounds to lead Mount Ida to a 100-92 win over Thomas College in men’s basketball action Saturday.

Sophomore forward Scott Chamberlain also recorded a double-double with 18 points and 16 rebounds for the Mustangs (5-3) in the win.

Dan Grappi tallied 29 points and five rebounds with four assists for the Terriers (3-10), while also receiving strong offensive effort from Adam Rich and James Godley with 21 points apiece.

Wentworth 105, UNE 84

BOSTON, Mass. – First-year forward Brian Gaine and sophomore Frankie Hall combined for 40 points to propel Wentworth to a 105-84 win over the University of New England in men’s basketball action Saturday.

The Leopards (1-9) out-rebounded the Nor’easters (3-9) by a margin of 26-16 in the first half on their way to a commanding 55-30 lead into intermission.

Junior Mark Hardy made 7-of-11 shots from the floor, including a 3-pointer, and finished with a team-high 18 points for the Nor’easters. Sophomore Matt McMAnus added 13 and teammate Mark Regis chipped in with 10 points.

Amherst 93, Bowdoin 63

AMHERST, MA – John Bedford led the way with a game-high 25 points as Amherst roles past Bowdoin 93-63 in a college mens’ basketball match up on Saturady. Andrew Schiel aslo added 17 for Amherst (13-0).

Bowdoin’s Mark Yakavonis and Kyle Petrie combined for 31 points. Kevin Bradley also socred 13 for the Polar Bears (7-7).
Women’s hockey

Colby 3, Trinity 1

WATERVILLE – Colby College scored three times in the third period to take a 3-1 win over Trinity College in women’s hockey action.

Elizabeth Johnson scored the games first goal for Trinity at 3:52 of the first period for the early lead.but failed to maintain the lead as the White Mules answered with three scores in the third period.

Lindsay Tedeschi opened the third period with a goal at :53 on a pass from Sara Goodrich, Heather DiVitto found the back of the net with the game-winner unassisted six minutes latter and Erin Schlossman iced the game with a goal at 15:30.

Bowdoin 10, Wesleyan 1

BOWDOIN – Kelsey Wilcox and Brittany Carr picked up a pair of goals each as Bowdoin danced to a 10-1 victory over Wesleyan in women’s hockey action Saturday.

The Polar Bears (7-3-1) went on a shooting spree, spraying 38 shots on goal and holding Wesleyan to only one on a power play.

Wesleyan (6-7-0) tabulated their power play goal three quarters of the way through the first period to cut the Polar Bear lead to 2-1, but failed to duplicate the effort over the next 44 minutes in the loss.

Women’s basketball

Maine 73, Albany 53

ALBANY – Junior Missy Traversi came off the bench to lead the Black Bears with 16 points as Maine defeated Albany, 73-53, in women’s America East Conference basketball action Saturday afternoon.

The Great Danes (3-10) kept the first half scoring within rallying distance as when junior Danielle Hutcheson executed a layup with 9:07 on the clock to even the contest at 15-all. Hutcheson recorded her fourth double-double of the year with a game-high 20 points and notched a career-high 16 rebounds.

The Black Bears’ (9-5) offense was more balanced.

Albany had drawn the game to within four with just under 19 minutes in the second half when the Black Bears went on a 21-4 tear under the leadership of junior Melissa Heon, who tallied eight points during the span. Heon contributed 11 points overall, and senior Heather Ernest scored 12 points in similar fashion. Julie Veilleux chipped in with 11 points and hauled down a team-best seven rebounds.

Trinity 72, Colby 47

WATERVILLE – Rebecca Bell had 15 points and 11 rebounds to lead Trinity College to a 72-47 win over Colby College in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Saturday.

Jasmine Johnson added 11 points and nine rebounds while Jessica Baker added 12 points in the win.

The White Mules (7-8) were led by Wendy Bonner with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Bowdoin 77, Amherst 46

BRUNSWICK – Erika Nickerson drained 15 points to pace Bowdoin College to a 77-46 win over Amherst College in women’s NESCAC basketball Saturday afternoon.

The Polar Bears (13-0) remained unbeaten as Eileen Flaherty and Lora Trenkle chipped in with 13 and 12 points respectively in the lopsided win.

The Lord Jeffs were paced by Kristine Morin with a team-high 12 points.

UNE 64, Wentworth 47

BOSTON, Mass – Missy Sults had a game-high 24 points and 1 rebounds as the University of new England downed Wentworth Institute 64-47 in Commonwealth Coast Conference basketball action Saturday.

Stults had 14 points in the first half as the Nor’easters (5-5) established a 35-20 lead, while Melissa Roller and Carley Bartolome chipped in with 15 and 10 points respectivley in the victory.

Cheyenne Noble paced the Leopards (4-6) attack with a team-high 22 points.

USM 93, UMD 51

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass – Megan Myles torched the nets for 18 points and hauled down seven rebounds to propel the University of Southern Maine to a 93-51 win over the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth in Little East Conference basketball play at Tripp Athletic Center Saturday afternoon.

The Huskies took a commanding 43-28 lead at the end of the first half placing five different players in double digits cruising to the win.

Ashley Marble (15 points), Jen Webster (13 points), Shannon Kynoch (12 points), and Marybeth Pariseau (11 points) rounded out the scoring barrage,

The Corsairs failed to place a player in double digits.

Bates 75, Connecticut College 40

NEW LONDON, Conn – Meg Coffin drained a game-high 14 points and pulled down six rebounds to lead Bates College to a 75-40 victory over Connecticut College.

Jakie Olson added 12 and Olivia Zurek and Lauren Dubois scored 11 each for Bates (9-5).

Connecticut’s Sarah Huntington scored a team-high 10 points for the Camels (5-7).
