I am just about to blow my top. I cannot believe that so little regard is given to voters and taxpayers when a huge decision is going to be made that could affect us (and our pocketbooks) for the next 10 years.

Why is public opinion never considered in these decisions? It seems as though saving face and stuffing the pockets of city officials becomes more important than the wishes and the welfare of Lewistonians.

Deals were made that cannot be met and now city hall has to pick up the tab? How can the opinion of a handful of people reflect the wants and the wishes of the whole city?

We elect officials to represent our best interest and yet decisions are always made behind closed doors. The buying of the civic center is not in our best interest. It is a huge responsibility with no guarantees. And we cannot afford more taxes.

Don’t get me wrong, my husband and I are avid hockey fans, but after looking at the figures, this is just not a good business decision. It is another Bates Mill all over again. Let’s not take on yet another white elephant to please a few officials and a handful of hockey fans (per capita). The figures are just not there.

The editorial on Jan. 13 Sun Journal is right on when it says we are “Making decisions too quickly.” Couldn’t we have a say?
