RUMFORD – Mr. John B. LaPointe Jr., 76, died Sunday, Jan. 18, at his home on Somerset Street in Rumford.
Born in Mexico, on June 24, 1927 he was the son of John B. and Eugenia (Arsenault) LaPointe Sr. He was a graduate of Stephens High School in Rumford. He worked for Oxford Paper Company in Rumford as a millwright.
John was a communicant of St. Athanasius-St. John Church. He was also a member of Napoleon Ouellette Post #24 American Legion, Robert Shand Post #1641, VFW. He was a well known baseball, basketball and football coach and official in the area. He also served as chairman of the school board. He was married in Rumford, on May 10, 1954, to the late Claudette Morin who died in Rumford on June 17, 2003.
Survivors include: three sons, Timothy and his wife, Peggy, of Rumford, Stephen and his wife, Jeannie, of Rumford, Daniel and his wife, Laurie, of Mexico; four daughters, Mrs. Linda Burns and her husband, Jim, of Rumford, Mrs. Jennifer Warriner and her husband, David, of Auburn, Mrs. Valerie Glueck and her husband, Craig, of Winslow, and Miss Nicole Lane of Portland; one sister, Mrs. Edna Wentworth of Kennebunk; grandchildren, Kassie Burns, Jonathan LaPointe, Michelle LaPointe, Linnea Burns, Tristan LaPointe, Chloe LaPointe, Natalie LaPointe, Hannah LaPointe, Tiana Warriner, Samuel Warriner and Molly Glueck.
