OXFORD – Perhaps $2,500 in repairs will be needed for the Brine House before it can be rented again, Town Manager Mike Huston told selectmen Thursday.

The house is on Route 26 next to the town garage, and the town has been renting it out for seven years.

After the latest tenants moved out of the house last week, Huston said he went to check the oil in the tank and discovered that the furnace wasn’t working.

He called in Henderson Electric of Oxford to take a look, and the company owner’s report to the town indicated that there were several areas of the house in need of an electrical upgrade.

“No water was circulating, pipes are frozen, and the house is for now not able to be rented,” Huston wrote. A claim has been submitted to the town’s insurance company.

“My hope would be that it would agree these are worthwhile expenses,” he wrote, especially since the town receives around $6,000 a year in annual rental income.

The Municipal Facilities Committee will meet to discuss the particulars of the job.
