Tyler Martin and Shawn Longley each punch in a hat trick.
LEWISTON – Between Saturday and Monday, the clock struck midnight for the Bangor Rams.
Two days after upending defending state champion Edward Little in Auburn, Bangor traveled to Lewiston on Monday, trying to make it two in a row with a game against St. Dom’s.
Perhaps the Rams needed to rewind their clocks.
Tyler Martin tallied a hat trick and an assist. Teammates Shawn Longley also punched in a hat trick and Jon Rutt scored two goals and earned three assists to lead St. Dom’s to a 13-1 victory over Bangor at the Central Maine Civic Center.
Brandon Gervais turned 11 shots aside to post the win, lifting the Saints’ record to 7-2 on the season. Bangor drops to 8-4.
“That was embarrassing,” Bangor coach Dan Kerluke said.
“We just had no legs. It’s weird because you go from cloud nine on Saturday to the gutter in just two days.”
From the beginning, Bangor looked fatigued, and a rested Saints’ offense ran rampant over the young Rams’ defense.
Longley, Rutt and Martin put St. Dom’s ahead 5-0 in the first 10 minutes of the game, and Steve Nadeau added the first of his two goals with 25 seconds left on the clock.
“After the first three, you could just tell that today was our day,” St. Dom’s coach Bob Boucher said. “They were well set-up goals, the team was passing clearly, and you could just see more coming.”
In the second period, Bangor appeared to right the ship, at least momentarily, until Longley added his third of the game, followed by Martin’s third, giving St. Dom’s an 8-0.
Bangor netted its only goal of the game at 1:33 of the third period when Ben Estabrook whacked a rebound past Gervais on a Ben Silver shot.
Rutt, Cam Robichaud, Nadeau, Ryan Guerin and Josh Dwinal all netted goals in the third period, and John Emerson came into the game in net, allowing no goals on three shots.
