RUMFORD -Police are investigating the alleged embezzlement of thousands of dollars from a SAD 43 school account over a six-month period.

At approximately 12:25 p.m. on Jan. 13, Lt. Detective Wayne Gallant said SAD 43 Superintendent James Hodgkin stopped by the police station to report the theft.

“At this time, I’m not prepared to release any more information,” Gallant said Tuesday afternoon.

“But I can foresee, that based on what we have uncovered thus far, this case will definitely be presented to the grand jury next month.”

Officials at SAD 43 declined to comment further on the matter, but Gallant, the lead investigator, said Hodgkin has a suspect.

According to the police report, the alleged embezzlement occurred over a period from Aug. 1, 2003, to Jan. 13, 2004, at Mountain Valley High School, 799 Hancock St., in Rumford.
