PARIS – The January meeting of the Oxford County Democrats will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, at the Paris Town Office, beginning with a pot luck supper.

The business of the meeting will be an official presidential preference caucus training conducted by Aymie Walshe, executive director of the Maine Democratic Party. Conveyors for the 35 caucuses scheduled in Oxford County on Feb. 8 will receive training in the procedures of conducting the meeting, which is the method by which Democrats in Maine indicate their presidential preference.

Other business will include reports on ongoing activities of the Oxford County Democrats, plus updates from various campaigns. In case of inclement weather, cancellation information will be on WOXO, and the session will be held on Jan. 23. County Chairwoman Cathy Newell said the scheduling of 35 caucus meetings in Oxford County represents a large increase over recent years and that the return to a caucus system by the Maine political parties has heightened interest in the meetings.

This year absentee ballots are allowed. They may be obtained by calling the Maine Democratic Party at 622-6233, or visit www.mainedems.org.
