Roast pork supper

PARIS – The First Congregational Church will offer a public roast pork supper from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, at 17 East Main St. Tickets are $7 for adults, $4 for children age 12 and under. Tickets may be purchased at the door or by calling 743-2437. Proceeds will benefit the church sanctuary paint fund. Painting is planned for later this winter. Donations for the paint fund may be sent to the First Congregational Church, 17 East Main St., South Paris, ME 04281.

Weekend Snowfest

NORWAY – The Oxford Hills Snowfest sponsored by the Norway Trackers Snowmobile Club will begin with snowmobile drag racing at 10:15 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at Norway Lake near the Little Red Schoolhouse. Sign-ups will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. Entry fees are $15. Races are double elimination. Sunday, Jan. 25, features the snowmobile radar run, chowderfest and antique snowmobile show. Racing will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sign-ups will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Entry fee is $5 per run. The chowder fest will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Little Red Schoolhouse. All you can eat at $6 for adults, $3 for children, under age three eats free. Other food available both days includes hot dogs, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, and beverages. Antique snowmobiles must be at least 25 years old to enter. There is no entry fee. Entries will be taken until 2:30 p.m. Proceeds benefit grooming and maintenance of the Norway Trackers trail system. Garden lecture

PARIS – Designing and building an English garden in Maine is the topic of Peter Monro of Monro Associates, who will speak from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, at the McLaughlin Foundation Garden and Horticultural Center, 97 Main St. The language of the English garden design will be translated to accommodate the climate and plant materials of Maine backyards. PARIS – A Seed Read and Feed presentation will be offered by the McLaughlin Foundation Garden and Horticultural Center at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 97 Main St. Participants can enjoy a bowl of soup and fresh bread while sharing old favorites or new seed and plant catalogues. The 2004 catalogue supply is from Avant Gardens, Cook’s Gardens, Fedco, Fieldstone Gardens, Hedgehog Hill, Johnny’s Seeds, Seeds of Change, Shepard’s Seeds and more. There is no admission fee. ‘Logging’ author

NORWAY – Norway Memorial Library will present children’s author Mary Morton Cowan who will discuss and read from her book “Timberr, A History of Logging in New England” from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursdays Jan. 29 and Feb. 5, at the library. The presentation will include visuals. Inspiration for her book stems from stories of her father’s childhood in the Paris Manufacturing Co.’s woods operation. A Maine native, Cowan is also the author of “Ice Country,” a historical novel, and 60 articles in children’s magazines including “Highlights for Children.” These programs are for children ages 8 to 14.
