1924 – 2004

LEWISTON – Lionel W. Gilpatrick, 79, of Turner died Sunday, Jan. 18, at Central Maine Medical Center. He was born in Medford, Mass., on March 6, 1924, the son of Lionel and Ethel (Strout) Gilpatrick.

He was educated in Portland schools and graduated from Portland High School in 1942. He married Regina “Jean” Clukey on Aug. 18, 1950.

Mr. Gilpatrick worked for the Dell Publishing Co. and the American News attaining the position of manager of the Lewiston office. Later he joined New York Life Insurance Co. and worked as an agent and financial planner for 38 years. He was a military veteran having served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and with the Marines during the Korean War.

Mr. Gilpatrick loved boats, boating, and time spent with his family during holiday get togethers.

He leaves his wife Jean; his daughter, Karen Robinson and her husband Glen of Buckfield; two sons, Brian Gilpatrick and his wife Mary of Biddeford and James Gilpatrick and wife Melanie of Vancouver, Wash.; eight grandchildren, Thomas and Jason Gilpatrick, Scott and Craig Robinson, Erica, Andrea, Maggie, and James Jr. Gilpatrick; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jean Gilpatrick and Arlene Sabasteanski both of Portland; a brother, Richard Gilpatrick and his wife Elaine of Portland; his niece, Wendy Gilpatrick; and nephew, John Sabasteanski.
