AUBURN – Crews from Auburn and Lewiston responded to a morning fire that damaged a second-story apartment at 67 Second St. Wednesday. No one was hurt.

The fire was discovered when Christine Ames, 17, returned home at about 11 a.m. with her sister, Michelle Grivois, 12. The girls immediately called emergency workers and checked the building for other tenants. Karen Vonney, who lives on the first floor, was the only other person in the building at the time. She reached safety without a problem.

The girls said the fire appeared to have begun in the bedroom where their mother, Celine Theriault, sleeps.

Fire officials said Wednesday they did not know how the fire started.
