BOSTON (AP) – Boston Bruins center Joe Thornton will have surgery on his fractured left cheekbone on Thursday and is expected to miss at least one more game.

Thornton, who injured the cheekbone last week after getting punched during a fight with Eric Lindros of the New York Rangers, will miss Thursday’s game against the Buffalo Sabres and then will be listed as day-to-day, general manager Mike O’Connell said.

Thornton has already missed one game because of the injury. Thornton, a former overall No. 1 draft pick, is the team captain and leading scorer with 11 goals and 33 assists in 47 games this season.

The surgery will be performed at Massachusetts General Hospital by Dr. Michael Yaremchuk. Lindros’ uppercut knocked Thornton out of the game and bloodied his face.
