About 75 citizens attended the ceremony Thursday.

DIXFIELD – The idea of a birthday present for the town sprang in the mind of Charlotte Collins and other town employees long before the bicentennial celebration in 2003.

Thinking that a town clock at the bank was something the town would really enjoy, Collins got the ball rolling for donations.

Thursday saw the conclusion of that dream as the Dixfield Bicentennial Clock was unveiled by the 2003 Little Mr. Dixfield Tyler Frost and Little Miss Dixfield Melissa Frank. Cheers from the crowd and colorful confetti filled the air as the clock, made in Medfield, Mass. by the Electric Time Co., came into view.

Collins welcomed the crowd of approximately 75 citizens to the dedication and asked them to join in singing “God Bless America.”

Dixfield Board of Selectmen Chairman Hugh Daley saod. “This all came about by an individual dream and then grew to a team effort and from there to a community making this dream come true. We as individuals cannot make dreams such as this come true. Most do not have the money or resources to make this happen, but as a team and a community working together, there isn’t much in this world that we can’t accomplish.” He said he anticipated many more dreams to come true over the years in Dixfield.

Bangor Bank Senior Vice President David Perkins also thanked the citizens of Dixfield for making this dream a reality.

Collins went on to name each of the more than 100 donors. The Board of Selectmen, special contributors, business contributors, schools and alumni and citizens donated more than $17,000 toward the purchase and installation of the clock, which cost close to $20,000.
