Part of the problem for Central Maine Civic Center is that events such as hockey games are not being advertised beyond the Lewiston-Auburn or Sun Journal area. If the city fathers want to attract more spectators to hockey games, they need to reach out to fans in the Augusta-Waterville area who enjoy hockey and are willing to drive down.

I live 20 minutes from the Civic Center and would attend five or six games a season with my wife, family or friends if a daily or weekly schedule of games were easily available.

Waterville also has a strong hockey tradition with the high school team and the Colby Mules. From Waterville to Lewiston via Route 95 is less than an hour’s drive for hockey fans. If they will go to Portland to see the Pirates, maybe they will drive to Lewiston instead.

The message is advertise, advertise, advertise. If you tell them, they will come.
