FARMINGTON – Selectmen are scheduled to hold a public hearing Tuesday on proposed amendments to the town zoning ordinance.

The proposal is to change a section of West Farmington between Bridge and Oakes streets and Thomas McClellan Road from village residential to village commercial.

The hearing follows the Pledge of Allegiance and is part of the selectmen’s meeting that starts at 6:30 p.m. at the municipal building.

If the area is established as a village commercial district, the change would allow the following:

• Amusement facility, subject to land use standards and Planning Board approval.

• Automobile repair and sales, small engine repair, subject to land use standards, Planning Board approval.

• Bed and breakfast, subject to land use standards.

• Wooden boat building, repair, subject to land use standards, Planning Board approval.

• Non-wooden boat building, repair, subject to land use standards, Planning Board approval.

• Building materials, retail sales, subject to land use standards, Planning Board approval.

• Commercial school, subject to land use standards, Planning Board approval.

• Conference center, subject to land use standards, Planning Board approval.

Also on Tuesday’s agenda is discussion on a request for the installation of street lights in the Granite Heights subdivision, consideration of a municipal resolution for fair taxes now, and consideration of officially disbanding the space utilization committees for the the public works garage and municipal building.

The board is also scheduled to meet in executive session to discuss negotiations relative to the bargaining agreement between the the town and the Farmington Public Works Association.
