Film on bin Laden

FARMINGTON – “Hunting bin Laden,” a PBS-produced film, will be shown at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, at Ricker Hall Addition, Room 205. The 2001 documentary provides a history of the development of the networks connected to bin Laden and the relationship of that history to U.S. policy in Central Asia and the Middle East. This film presentation is part of the monthly series offered by Western Mountains Peace Action Workshop. It is open to anyone who wants to continue inquiring into the current world situation. Discussion will follow the 50-minute screening. There is no charge but donations will be accepted.

Dog licenses

WILTON – Residents have until Friday, Jan. 30, to renew dog and kennel licenses. The town typically registers about 600 dogs; about half have been registered so far. Anyone who registers a dog after Jan. 30 will be charged a late fee of $15, in addition to the cost of the license. Fees for dog licensing have gone up statewide. The charge for neutered or spayed dogs rose from $4 to $6 this year. Male and female dogs that are not neutered or spayed will cost $10 to license, up from $7.50.

Grant hearing

CANTON – A public hearing on more than $700,000 in grants will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, at the municipal building. Selectmen are expected to seek public input to accept a $250,000 community development block grant for the town’s fire station. Additional discussion items include applications for another block grant, this one for $400,000 for housing assistance, and a flood mitigation assistance grant for $98,000. Other business up for discussion includes the emergency plan ordinance and the comprehensive plan.
