LIVERMORE FALLS – Superintendents from several area schools will meet with SAD 36 Superintendent Terry Despres Thursday at the Cedar Street facility to discuss areas in which they could cooperate.

Despres announced the meeting to board members Thursday night and will report back to them, as well as to officials from Livermore and Livermore Falls, in a joint session at 6:30 p.m. that evening.

Despres stressed the school leaders will not be pushing for consolidation but for collaboration in services.

“We’ll be looking at it from a dollars and cents prospect,” he said.

Included in the session will be Monmouth, Dixfield, Maranacook, Buckfield, Minot, Fayette, Mechanic Falls, Poland, Winthrop, Jay and Turner.

According to his understanding of the state’s emphasis, Despres believes there will be substantial benefits for schools that are able to work out plans for regionalization.

He said he wants this area to be in the forefront of that effort.

“It’s important to get into the early stages of any changes,” he said.
