LEWISTON – Members of the Maine County Commissioners Association have elected Patience Johnson, an Androscoggin County commissioner in her second term, president of the association.

She has previously served as treasurer and vice president. Other elected officials who will serve with her are Peter Baldacci from Penobscot County as vice president and William Layman from York County as treasurer.

The Maine County Commissioners Association has representatives from all 16 counties with a commissioner from each county on the Board of Directors. The group meets monthly and at additional times throughout the year with an agenda of various legislative concerns for each county, from group purchasing, jail updates and sentencing issues to discussions on improving services in each county.

The agenda for this year will be more focused on legislative issues and will look at what counties can offer municipalities in partnership to consolidate services regionally.

Besides being an Androscoggin County commissioner, Johnson has sold real estate with Coldwell Banker Millett Realty of Auburn for 19 years. She has served on the Abused Women’s Advocacy Project board of directors, is a corporator for Mechanic Savings Bank and serves as treasurer of the 4th Degree Wives for Knights of Columbus, Council 106.

Johnson and her husband, Paul Samson, reside in Lewiston. They have four children and seven grandchildren.
