LEWISTON – After dropping three of their first 12 games, St. Dom’s had a chance on Wednesday to avenge one of those setbacks.

One down, two to go.

Tyler Martin had two goals, Josh Dwinal had a goal and two assists and Brady Blackman made 20 stops to lead St. Dom’s to a 6-4 win over rival North Yarmouth Acadamy at the Central Maine Civic Center.

“We’ve had some solid, surprising starts to games this season, and then we have blown some leads,” St. Dom’s coach Bob Boucher said. “We’ve also had some things turn around on us, again like tonight.”

It appeared as though the Saints would run away with it from the outset. Dwinal, Shawn Longley and Martin combined for four goals in a six-minute span of the first period to give St. Dom’s a commanding 4-0 lead. Martin had the third and fourth goals, scoring both times on point blank shots from the slot.

“That second line just grinds it out well,” Boucher said. “They might have even had more opportunities, but they didn;t hit as many passes in the second and third periods.”

The Panthers clawed back with two goals of their own in the first, both off the stick of center Dan Bartlett. Bartlett logged his first at the 11:13 mark when he tipped home a Micah Mangini shot from the left point, and got his second on the power play at 12:49 of the first on a wrap-around. The power play was a 5-on-3, and resulted from a butt-ending call against sophomore Erik Rousseau, which carried with it a five-minute major and a game misconduct. The additional two minutes were assessed to the St. Dom’s bench for arguing the call.

In the second, St. Dom’s tried to pull away, outshooting the Panthers 12-1 to open the frame. All St. Dom’s could muster, however, was a Mike Carpenter slap shot goal on the power play at 3:50. As the period wore on, NYA slowly started to climb back into the game rhythm, getting six shots on goal in the final five minutes. Jack Sidar netted the Panthers’ second power play goal of the game at 13:51 to pull NYA back within two at 5-3.

“Killing that 5-on-3, I think, started to turn the game around,” Boucher said.

The Saints again pushed the lead to three in the third on a Steve Nadeau goal at 2:31, but Bartlett responded with his third of the night at 3:57.

From there, though, NYA registered just four more shots on goal, none of which eluded Blackman.
