NEWRY – On Saturday, Feb. 7, Sduduzo Ka-Mbili with his dance troupe Juxtapower will perform at Sunday River Ski Resort as part of its Black Diamond Family Entertainment Series.

The troupe is one of 25 groups to watch, according to a Dance Magazine article in 2003.

A dancer, choreographer and composer, Ka-Mbili celebrates South African dance and music. In 1999, he established the troupe in New York City to showcase the rich culture of South Africa.

Combining gumboot and Zulu forms with modern technique and tap, Ka-Mbili crafts an vision of a vibrant heritage of indigenous music, dance and visual arts, and literature.

Juxtapower has grown into a successful group recognized nationally. The troupe has performed in Washington at an event honoring Justice Goldstone of South Africa, at the Miss World Pageant in the British Virgin Islands and at the Apollo Theater AIDS project for Africa. Juxtapower has also performed before Presidents Clinton, Ford and Carter, and former Secretary of State Madeline Albright.

Tickets are $4 for children (ages 6 to 12) and $6 for adults, in advance; or $6 and $8, respectively, at the door. Tickets may be purchased on the mountain at the South Ridge Welcome Center, the Snow Cap Inn and the Grand Summit Hotel front desk or at Books & Things in Bethel.
