RUMFORD – A WinterFest ice skating party will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at Three Fields ice skating rink, across from Aubuchon Hardware. Some loaner skates will be available. There will be sledding, skating, music, hot chocolate and a bonfire.

Snowshoe walk

NEWRY – Dr. Rick Churchill will lead a snowshoe walk in the woods around the Sunday River Cross-Country Ski Center at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, for members of the Senior College who would like to learn more about the woods in winter. Cost of the walk for members is $5, which will be collected prior to the start of the walk. Snowshoe rentals are available from the cross-country center. Interested members should call 824-3209 to reserve their place on the walk.

Post service

RUMFORD – The American Legion Post 24 and Auxiliary will hold a special service to honor the four chaplains at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, at the post home, Congress Street. A light lunch will be served with the regular meetings following at 6 p.m.

Story time

DIXFIELD – Beginning Monday, Feb. 2, the Wee Readers story time at Ludden Memorial Library, for children ages 2-5, will begin at 10:30 a.m.

Snowmobile club

MEXICO – The Mexico snowmobile club will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, at the Mexico Town Hall.

Peru caucus

PERU – The Peru Democratic Party caucus will take place at the Rockemeka Grange Hall at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8. The town clerk will be present beginning at 2:30 to register new voters wishing to participate.

Veterans bus tour

RUMFORD – There will be an informational meeting at noon Friday, Feb. 6, at the VFW hall on Waldo Street for the WWII memorial dedication and the River Valley veterans bus tour to Washington, D.C. There are 10 seats available on the second bus. The cost is $238 per person.
